چکیده

An extensive experimental campaign has been carried out in a multiple-fan wind tunnel to study the effects of flow acceleration on sectional model sharp-edged square cylinder. Different levels positive and negative are reproduced, which compatible with those induced by full-scale thunderstorm outflows. Various initial final conditions also explored and, all conditions, multiple test repeats order obtain satisfactory ensemble averages. Particular attention is devoted acquisition signals associated vortex-shedding, for tailored time-frequency analyses, based continuous wavelet Hilbert transforms, introduced. Sensitivity analyses selection relevant parameters that better allow tracing temporal variation shedding frequency. Time intervals frequency constant, separated discontinuities, found during transients. The number extent such constant-frequency time cells discontinuities seem be connected acceleration, but not strictly repetitive. For higher mean Strouhal comparable or moderately lower than steady-flow value corresponding instantaneous velocity.

Effects Of Frequency Variation At Inlet Flow On The Vortex Shedding Frequency Behind A Circular Cylinder

In many applications the flow that past bluff bodies has frequency nature (oscillated) and it is not uniform. This kind of flow has effects on the formation of vortex shedding behind bluff bodies. In this paper the flow around a circular cylinder was numerically simulated. The effects of frequency variation at inlet flow on the vortex shedding frequency were investigated. The transient Two-Dime...

Weakened Vortex Shedding from a Rotating Cylinder

An experimental study of the turbulent near wake of a rotating circular cylinder was made at a Reynolds number of 2000 for velocity ratios, λ between 0 and 2.7. Particle image velocimetry data are analyzed to study the effects of rotation on the flow structures behind the cylinder. The results indicate that the rotation of the cylinder causes significant changes in the vortex formation. Kármán ...

Thermal Field Around a Circular Cylinder with Periodic Vortex Shedding

A numerical study is carried out to investigate the laminar forced convection heat transfer from a circular cylinder. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible, the Reynolds number ranged from 0.1 to 1000, and the Prandtl number was equal to 0.7. The range of study includes heat transfer in creeping flow (Re40). The equations were discretized by a control-volume-based finite difference techniqu...

Vortex-Shedding Suppression in Mixed Convective Flow past a Heated Square Cylinder

The present study investigates numerically the phenomenon of vortex-shedding and its suppression in twodimensional mixed convective flow past a square cylinder under the joint influence of buoyancy and free-stream orientation with respect to gravity. The numerical experiments have been conducted at a fixed Reynolds number (Re) of 100 and Prandtl number (Pr) of 0.71, while Richardson number (Ri)...

Nonlinear optimal suppression of vortex shedding from a circular cylinder

This study is focused on twoand three-dimensional incompressible flow past a circular cylinder for Reynolds number Re 6 1000. To gain insight into the mechanisms underlying the suppression of unsteadiness for this flow we determine the nonlinear optimal open-loop control driven by surface-normal wall transpiration. The spanwise-constant wall transpiration is allowed to oscillate in time, althou...
